Internet Deception on Social Media Sites

To those who think it’s funny to make fake profiles on Facebook and other websites: Stop!

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you are that insecure about yourself that you cannot operate under your own name, stay off a social site. This poses danger to those who legitimately use this system for communication.

I have a question: Why do you do it?? Is it for entertainment? Is it that you are socially inept? Why??

For Mallory Smarts, Malcom Clever, Westley Sharps, and likes out there, delete your profile and get off. You do not know how to use a computer properly and securely like the rest of society want you to.

You are deliberately manipulating the system and putting many people at risk by damaging the credibility and quality of information on such sites.

If you are doing this to be funny, you are not. This is a sick joke and trend that needs to have died yesterday.

Even though I consider myself a computer savvy user and don’t mind the instant email or text message, people need to learn old-fashioned person-to-person etiquette. It hasn’t really bothered me until now. That is, the impersonality and loss of genuine interaction that social media sites have brought upon us.

Such actions should be offensive to everyone who ‘befriends’ them… you have been betrayed.

For those that are promoting this behavior please take action and block these false profiles.

For those that are creating them, please re-evaluate your decision.

Thanks,
Kevin

Why so serious?

You know, I was asked a question today about a fictional character being my roommate…. I picked the Joker from the Dark Knight.

If everyone had his cheery disposition, it would be a better place… (You’re thinking right now that I’ve lost my mind… maybe I have.) But really. Why do we get caught up in making plans? Why can’t we just let nature take it’s course?

I find myself stressing over school, finding a job, college, and other occurrences of life and people often remind me that I should just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent. It is a time for change in the new liturgical year. It leads us Christians into Easter – a sort of second new year. A time to make resolutions that are supported by the Church instead of the superficial promises we make on January 1.

I have my own set of “problems” that I would like to see resolved. Some character flaws if you will. We all have them… it’s part of being human.

Remember Catholic kids, no meat tomorrow and get dirty lol…

I’ll be up early tomorrow preparing for the Ash Wednesday Mass to be held at school tomorrow. Should be interesting… My musical opinion falls somewhere between what the Bishops say and what we play normally for Mass… I’ll have mixed feelings that I’ll need to sort out later…

pyParallel Documentation

Okay, I can’t Google pyParallel without being directed to some almost maintained pySerial Sourceforge page. It’s kinda annoying so as I’m looking at the source of Pyparallel, I am making comments about the functions that are so easily available through this truly great library – despite it being poorly documented. I do apologize for any vagueness, but it’s my first time writing a real document. If you want to contribute to this document or offer any suggestions, please email kevin@spicyomelet.com
Thanks and good luck,
Kevin

Here it is in a .doc file…

It’s been a while

Well everyone,
It’s been a few weeks since my last post.
A lot has happened, naturally, since the last post.
I won my match at senior night on the 18th, stayed home from school on the 19th and visited the doctor and got a blood test, forged my way through school on the 20th, diagnosed with mononucleosis on the 21st, stayed home from school on the 22nd, and here I sit on the 23rd wondering what to do next.

Overall, things are on the up and up. I’m feeling great emotionally, not so good physically. Those who know, know.

Apparently, I have had mono for a month which is an explanation for my general lack of energy….

Oh well… I also began working on my relay board for my bot… still haven’t figured out how I’m actually gonna move the bot b/c the of wheel issues and a lack of funds… so I might have to get creative… a lot creative…

Anywho, have fun!

Sunday night dread… and it’s still the morning

Well girls and boys,
I seem to have missed my mark by not achieving the goals of grandeur I had set off this Christmas Break to do. I planned to have a fully operational robot this break. Instead… I have a nice design for two websites. I planned to go to Chicago and visit my cousins… that was a complete flop. I planned to teach myself physics… haha… funny idea…

So here I sit, in bed, this morning typing this and I am feeling kinda depressed, but at the same time kinda relaxed as that is what I did over this break. I don’t think anything could’ve helped more than a few well-placed naps throughout my break which consisted largely of wrestling, wrestling room remodeling, napping, eating, coding, visiting, opening, giving, etc.

What it comes down to is that I am now starting to appreciate this break not for what I didn’t do, but what for what I DID do. I stayed in shape (possibly in better shape), had a great time with the family, learned a bit more about the nuances of web design, and had a time to collect my thoughts to prepare me for my final semester of high school.

So without further adieu,
Happy New Year and Happy Last Semester of High school Class of 2010!

The eve of New Year’s Eve

Good evening fans!

So I spent the last two hours making my re-design concept of andreanhs.com IE-compatible. What a joke! I coded the entire thing in Firefox and it looked beautiful. I opened it in Safari… still beautiful. Chrome… beautiful. IE6… looked like complete $h!t. But ok, it’s IE6 so it probably doesn’t know what CSS is in the first place. IE8 same trash that IE6 spat out.

Microsoft… what is going on? Do you follow any standards whatsoever?? What drugs are you taking?? I was very specific when I coded my template in plain HTML and CSS. I didn’t even use the <blink> tag! Come on!

So I sat at my family’s WinXP box trying to get it looking good in both IE and Firefox. Two hours it took for me to figure out what IE was trying to output from the gold I gave it…

I opened it on Safari right I made the changes. I opened in Chrome… looks good.

So here’s my end result for the night: http://spicyomelet.com/ahs_website

Btw… coding is one thing that can calm me down. I really find it soothing to sit infront of a screen and let my fingers just type away and get my
thoughts out on the blank canvas of a computer. I see a computer as a canvas of sorts as code can manipulate so many aspects of a computer. Furthermore someone once said “Code is art.” So I’ll say that I’m a code artist.

I made a realization today… maybe I want to get into artificial intellegence… it seems pretty interesting…

Anywho,
Good night and good luck.

Merry Christmas

Well… now it’s the 26th so I’m a little late.
I had a pretty good Christmas getting lots of chocolate, a few clothes, and some cash… I’m set!

I can’t sleep because I’ve been needing to do something ‘productive’ and this project has been bothering me for a year. I’ve set off to redesign the school’s website which would also give me a nice template to use for other applications. (Churchman Animal Hospital? ) Umm…  yeah..

So here we go! It’s 1:15am and I wrote a little script that reguritates HTML from a Mysql database. (Pretty elementary, I know.) I’ve been farting around with superficial things like DESIGN! Just kidding. I really want this site to look nice. My plan is to donate it to the school to replace the one we have… which has a lot of great content, but lacks in overall design.

And of course, when I go to move onto college, (thinking to myself ‘yeah, right, college… pssh… like I’m getting in…) I want to be able to give the reins of the site to someone who doesn’t know 4 different languages. So I am designing a content management system to  supplement the site. No website is complete without one! Hahah… who hand codes HTML these days???

So I’m in the process aggregating data to a database, designing a stylized template, making sure CSS behaves in all browsers, checking colors, writing PHP, securing mysql, etc…

At this point… this is what I got:

Another note: Google Chrome is the fastest browser that I’ve used so far. I may be able to tweak Firefox… but out of the box… darn this is fast! AND STABLE!

Well it’s late and I’m growing tired…
TTYL,
