Linux Compatibility

Linux is a great system to use. It does things efficently and cheaply (referring to cost). It would be nice that the rest of the world play nicely with something so wonderful and ahead of the game as Linux.

Bussiness practice is to develop something and then make it a secret so that particular company alone can benefit from it’s special product. That’s fine and dandy – everyone needs to make money.

How about some industry standards thought? Eh? What if there was one format for a word-processor document that can be read cross platform and be manipulated in any way ensuring feature rich abilities? The world would be a better place, wouldn’t it?

I know, I’m ranting…. but someone’s gotta do it.

This stems from me wanting to install the off-line version of Google Docs, but unable to because I don’t have the right version of Firefox. When I did get the right version, it didn’t work! BUG!!!

As much as I love Google, I demand that they do the following:

  • In their Calendar App – include handheld support (ie. Palm OS, Pocket PC…)
  • Linux support for offline apps
  • Optimize for speed in their apps
  • Have gmail import any email message
  • Upload entire folders/directories at a time

I think if those features were developed, I would be happier than anything… until then I will remain a faithful user/critic.

Kevin
