I bought a used rackmount server the other day on impulse. I’ve been parting out other machines that I’ve come across to get the system operational.
It currently has a 60 gig IDE hard drive, a 9 gig SCSI hard drive, two ethernet cards, 128mb of RAM, and 2 PIII processors clocked at 533MHZ. It’s old, but it will be good enough for what I need it for – storage or make it my web server.
I know I have some RAM laying around that I’ll throw in it to speed things up a bit – and I might either buy or put another IDE hard drive in it – if the power supply will allow for it.
If someone is throwing away a rack, please let me know. I don’t have too much money to spend so I’m looking for donations.
I’m in the process of installing Ubuntu Server Edition on it – the easiest server distro out there. It’s actually turning out to be a fun project.
Have fun,
Kevin

My friend wrote this on another friend’s wall:
browsing facebook, i just came to a sudden revelation. take your name for instance written in all lowercase letters: dan. now, flip the d and the n and you get something that looks kinda like a upside down d and not really any other letter so lets go ahead and put a little horizontal line at the bottom of that lonely little inverted d. now it looks like a g. now weve got to do something or another with that inverted n that now looks a little bit too much like a u. i propose we give it a little flare and make a little vertical line/horizontal line… a slash of sorts. and just for fun lets make this line go from top right to bottom left like so: /. now that little n that looked like a u looks a lot like a little y. put the letters together and voila! gay

Today at football practice, we prepared for our scrimmage tomorrow at Crown Point. It should be a battle…
It felt extremely hot outside today probably due to that famous humidity factor.
Today wasn’t the greatest day and I don’t feel like elaborating on it much.

Today started off like any other Sunday – waking up early to get ready for Mass. I actually sorted my piano music and placed it into the appropriate place in the big blue binder of liturgical music I have.
Mass was 35 minutes long! One of the fastest masses I’ve ever attended at St. Peter and Paul.
We decided to hit the beach and watch the air show. It was a nice day out. My sisters had their friends in attendance too.
It was a nice relaxing day, which I did pretty much nothing except soak up some rays. Upon leaving the entire Gary Fire Department and Police Force was combing the entire beach for 3 youths that had gone missing. ATVs were flying up and down the beaches looking for the three missing people, a helicopter in looking for suspecious objects in the water, lifeguards scanning the swim area, and volunteers looking as well. I asked my good friend how it all turned out: the three “missing” were simply wandering the beach.
We had a nice dinner at home – burgers and hot dogs along with sweet corn and various salads. We had birthday cake for my sister who is turning 14 tomorrow.
All in all, it’s been a good day – I’m tired.

Well, it’s 4:30 in the morning and I can’t sleep. I haven’t really been able to sleep well since my early childhood… so usually I find something else to do until I can’t physically stay up anymore.
Yesterday, I managed to install Ubuntu on my desktop machine. I thought about turning the machine into a server, but the one I have is doing just fine – it hasn’t had the pleasure of being Slashdotted yet…(Please don’t.)
Along with starting my summer reading – school starts in 4 weeks – I am going to produce some screen casts for our school newspaper staff on how to use Indesign. I will use my laptop to screencast my work on XP on VirtualBox and record my commentary on my desktop with Audacity. I hope to have this done sometime soon – I’ve been wanting to do that for a while.
I guess I will clean my room right now, since I can’t find anything better to do.
Later,
Kevin

I’ve been working on all sorts of things lately. I still haven’t finished the school library painting yet, at least the ajoining computer lab, but it will be done soon.
I plan on going to Computer Bay in Schererville today with my friend and get some parts for my computer to either make it a Hackintosh or a Linux server.
Football practice / conditioning is going good… they have me playing nose guard and it’s fun. Tomorrow we have a scrimmage at Hammond Morton around 2pm. Should be interesting…
Other than that, life is boring… I probably should start my summer reading….

Yea, so my family and I spent a week down at the lake. Check out some of the pictures I took while down there on my photo gallery.
I love vacation – and afterwards, it’s nice to come home.
