Well, seeming as I’ve been on a George Harrison mode today, why stop?
I do play piano. Kind of. I took three years of formal lessons and had to quit due to other activities such as football, wrestling, and some inordinate number of AP/Honors classes. Since then, I’ve dabbled a little bit. I started out with basic block chords in the left hand and melody in the right hand. I messed around a bit further and played broken chords in the left playing a more complex melody in the right hand. I keep experimenting with different bass lines and rhythms and I now play for church, my school’s Mass choir, and held the second keyboard part in the school’s production of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat . So I’m at a place where I know enough to get by. I am by no stretch an amazing pianist, nor do I claim to have any real skill. I do it for fun.
I really wish I could be well-versed in the instrument… but learning by experimentation seems to be a good tool.
Why do I bring this up? I don’t know really. I like music and it helps me calm down after a stressful day.
According to pandora.com, I like music which has a subtle use of vocal harmony, has a chromatic harmonic structure, has a major key tonality, and is vocal-centric. Most of the music I like could fall under the “guy-with-a-guitar” category. I also like old church hymns to the tune of a huge, deep, rich pipe organ. Some of my favorite artists include The Beatles (and the members’ separate works), Dave Matthews, Hootie and the Blowfish, Blackeyed Peas, Jack Johnson, Lady Gaga (yes…), Katie Perry (marry me??), Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.
I like a weird blend of music, but it’s me. When have I been described at somewhat normal?
Music is an expression of character, tastes, and opinions in my eyes. What type of music are you into?
